Ok ok!!! Yes!!! I know I've done it again!!! Abadoning my blog for the 14522048346th time. Sorry!!! People having finals soon ok? Wtd? I'm so nice to update this blog with a post just 2hrs before my exemption exam. *wishes really hardly that she can get 70% so that she will get exmpted* Anyw, just wanted to share with you all an awesome food blog by Nisha, a Singaporean girl studying in Australia, that has really simple recipes.

Like seriously. Not hard at all. Even I can make it. I did her Cheesecake Brownie. Easy and damn nice!!! Even the uncooked batter was nice. Hehehe. I was eating half of it before it went into the oven. Ooops!!! Here are some other examples of the recipes she has...

Teriyaki Chicken Rice. Looks so yummy right?!?!! Good for Malaysian/Asian students who are overseas and misses Malaysian/Asian food. Like me!!! Will definitely try this one day.

I'm going to try to make this next. Strawberry Cupcakes with Strawberry frosting!!! And for once, a frosting that doesn't require cream cheese. Yes, I'm a cheapskate, so I've not tried any frosting recipes because I can't bring myself to buy cream cheese just for frosting.

Last but not least, White Chocolate Chip Cookies!!! Gonna try this when I'm back in Malaysia for Summer. Hehehe!!!

Btw, pls don't expect me to meet up/go out/wtv with you until July. Cuz June is reserved for my darling and my family. Please do ask me, I won't bite, but I'll most probably say no. No offense. Well, unless its a birthday or some really important gathering.

Not really a post

Hi, I know I've been slacking on my blog, like AGAIN!!! But exams re near plus I just had my Easter holidays. It was fun!!! Went to Newcastle to visit Hong Yee, my super old time friend since Form 2, and also Elaine, which is my darling's couz's gf. Hehe. Stayed at her house la, and then went out with the both of them. They both did law in Northumbria University, except that she's 1 year his senior. I said did because she already graduated and he's graduating this Aug, so about there la. Hahaha. Anyw, it was really fun because of the company. Sorry Newcastle, but you weren't that interesting. Hahaha. Glasgow's better!!! I'll talk more on that another time, with pics.

I'm just here to say that I'm alive and that I'm bz, so that's all I'm gonna write. Will update you maybe at the end of this week after I'm done with my tests. The stress!!! Arrgh. I swear it's gonna kill me one day. Ok, that's all!!! =)

Work and Weird British Food Names

Hi!!! I just had a 1 day work in the pharmacy. Not gonna tell you which pharmacy though. Hehe. It was fun, and I learnt a lot from it. However, it was a rather slow Saturday for them, so I didn't get to experience the rush hour. It's probably better because then the pharmacist could take the time to teach me all the stuff. And also I won't get in the staff's way.

I learnt about methadone dispensing, needle exchange, selling stuff, emergency supply, CPUS, morning after pill. I mean I've learnt all these stuff in uni, but now that I've actually seen it done in the pharmacy, it's much clearer now. She really went through all the procedures with me. I'm really glad I managed to get this 1 day job. Really made me understand so much more. Students that have jobs in pharmacies have sooo much more advantages over those who don't. There's a 2nd year student there too. She knows way more than me. And I think she's way ahead of her year because she knows things that we've only learnt in 3rd year. So PP2 and PP3 will be a breeze for her. She was the one who took me through working at the till and the needle exhange programme.

Then Fiona also explained to me everything she was doing, and let me help her. So I learnt quite a lot from her as well. I do owe her a huge thank you. So,

The thing they do the most is methadone dispensing. There was like a constant flow of patients coming in. They were pretty ok though. I mean, you might expect them to be rowdy, causing havoc and scaring other patients and stuff since they're addicts, but they were ok. Pretty friendly some of them. They always say thank you and stuff like that. Though what I noticed was that most of them smelled of cigarette smoke. And they had this kind of look, like, kind of tired, or pale kind of thing. You would think like, oh, maybe they're addicts, and they are. Not all of them of course, but most of them. It's quite amazing that there are so many addicts here in Glasgow. It's not something that I would expect.

Well, that was what I did most of the time today. There's this machine that scans their fingerprint and the dose that they need just comes up. Then I just put a cup under the dispenser and it just dispenses how much I need to give them. Really simple. Sort of like a water dispenser, but you don't need to press anything. Then while the cup is filling up, I just fill in the installment slip and inform them if they need a new prescription on Monday. Then pass the cup to them once it's filled. And when they're taking it, I prepare their take home dose (because the pharmacy is closed on Sunday), cap it, label it, and then bag it. Methadone solution is dark green btw. And smells rather icky. To me anyw. I know 1 of them didn't like the taste. They normally wash it down with water. Not sure if it's because of the taste or because of the sugar. To give them more privacy, there's like a screened sitting area for them to sit and take their dose. Sort of like in restaurants, where you have booths. There's just 2 since the pharmacy's not huge. So we put a jug of water on the table for them. I quite liked dispensing methadone. So simple. Hehe. Nothing to do with me liking methadone ok? I'm not an addict.

I did make 1 mistake though. I didn't notice that the tank was almost empty, so tha amount that came out was not right. The patient did ask me if it was the correct amount and I said yes. I did wonder how come it looked rather little, but didn't realise the tank could run out. Silly me. The take home dose I gave him/her was wrong as well. But it was fixed in the end. So no worries. Luckily both the pharmacist and the patient wasn't mad at me. Pharmacist was because it's the 1st day I'm using and doing this. The patient, just because he/she was nice.

I hope I don't get caught or something for sharing these information. But I don't think they're confidential. I mean, you can't tell who the patients are from what I wrote right? I didn't reveal any information about them, just about the procedures to dispense to them. Any thing related to them are in general. No way can you deduce from what I wrote who they are. So I think I'm safe. Hehe.

For lunch I bought 2 sausage rolls from Greggs. It's a bakery that's practically everywhere in Scotland. Seriously. Like every street there's at least 1. And the smell that comes from there, OMG!!! Normally I don't buy from there, but they were having this offer, 2 sausage rolls for 99p. I was on my lunch break, so I though why not? After all, what else can you get for 99p that can make you as full as 2 sausage rolls? Then I went to McD, jst because I wanted a place to sit. I could actually go back to the pharmacy and eat upstairs, but it's cold up there!!! Plus I don't normally eat out, so I though just today would be fine. I bought a McFlurry there. The limited edition Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry. It had pieces of crushed easter egg, swirled with orange fondant sauce. Kinda nice. But I was in a rush so I was practically shoving the ice cream down. I threw a little of it away. Wasteful I know, but I was already slightly late, and it was only a little. I only ate 1 of the sausage roll because it was quite filling.

Btw, sausage here doesn't mean the sausage in Malaysia. That kind of sausage is called hot dog or frankfurter here. Sausage here tastes kind of like luncheon meat. It's mostly made of beef and pork, so my Malay friends, do watch out. There are halal butchers here so you don't have to worry about that if you buy from them, but not many around my area though. Anyw, back to sausages, it's the kind that you find in Italian shops and stuff as well. It's those that are like an English version of lap cheong, except that it's soft.

I saw on TV how people make sausages. It's like a machine where you put the ground meat into it at the top, place the casing (which really looks like a condom, and putting it on is really the same as putting a condom on. Hahaha) at the outlet, and then just turn the wheel. Then you have to keep squeezing the sausage to create a uniform shape and size. Grabbed this picture from Wikepedia. Haha. Hope it makes it clearer.

The meat goes into the place where the hands are covering, and the casing's put onto the white tube where the meat squeezes out, and you and see the person is shaping the sausage.

I saw the sausage making on Come Dine With Me. It's where a few strangers get together, and take turns hosting a dinner for the rest of that group of strangers. After the dinner, the guests rate them and the 1 with the best score wins some money. So sausage making was the fun activity in 1 of their dinners. Haha. 1 of the guests was saying that it was kind of erotic because it was like squeezing a dick. Hahaha.

Then here, they are called "bangers" because they often explode while cooking. Yes, it sounds wrong. Bangers and mash, that's sausages and mashed potatoes. It's quite a common dish here.


Talking about Scottish food, I've tried their Haggis. It's actually really yummy. Although if you know what it's made of you probably would be relunctant to try. Well, I did anyw. It was during Ching Yee's birthday housemates celebration. Ching Yee, Melissa, Brigitte and I went to Junction Bar to have dinner. So for starters we ordered Haggis, Tatties and Neeps. The British really have all sorts of weird names for food. I'll talk more on that later. Haggis is actually minced sheep windpipe, intestine and all those yucky internal organs, and then mixed with oatmeal and some beef suet (fat), and then placed inside a sheep's stomach. Sounds disgusting? Ya, I know. But it tastes good!!! Honestly!!! Tatties is mashed potatoes while Neeps is mashed swede (swedish turnip). The dish was honestly really yummy. See?

Ok, so weird British food names. Toad in a hole. Honestly, would you eat that if you didn't know what it was? It's actually just sausage baked in yorkshire pudding. So the "toad" is the sausage, in the "hole" which is the yorkshire pudding. Hahaha. Which it's not really a pudding because it's just made out of flour, eggs and milk.

Then there's Spotted Dick. Hahaha. Seriously!!! It's a steamed suet pudding containing dried fruit (usually raisins) served with custard or butter and brown sugar.

Black pudding, another famous Scottish food. It's sheep's blood sausage. I really don't get why they keep calling stuff that's not pudding, pudding. It's clearly not pudding but a kind of sausage. So why can't they just call it black sausage? Weirdos.

Another rather offensive food name is faggot. It's actually just meatballs. Hahaha. Though obviously made with all those disgusting parts.

Bubble and Squeak cakes. I actually tried making this. Hahaha. It turned out ok, but not that yummy to me. It sounds easy to make, but is actually quite hard if you don't have the right applicances. I had a picture for it, but because of all sorts of bloody mistakes, I kept deleting pictures and having to put them back on is such a pain because you have to drag it down. Arrgh!!! So go google it yourself. BBC Food has a nice picture of it.

Ok, I'm too lazy to continue searching for funny names and pictures of it, so just go to this link. It has a few funny names with what they are. No pictures though. Go google them yourself!!! McVite's Hob nobs are really yummy btw. Hehe. Am muncing on one now.

Stressed!!!

Oh, dear. I know I am terribly behind time in my blog. Oops!!! Life here is hectic k? So stressed!!! I don't even know why I am writing a post now when I have:

1. DD3 report to do which I have not even finished half
2. Biopharm test to study for, and I've not started
3. Accommodation forms to fill

The deadline for all these is 1st of April!!! Stupid April Fool day. Why would they want to have a class test on April Fool day? I do hope the lecturers don't trick us. Like say, time's up? and then oops, April Fool!!! Or meaner stuff, like teling us at the start of the exam that we have an extra hour to do it, then 15mins before the actual finishing time, say, April Fool!!! You only have 15mins left. OMG!!! Hahaha. Though I doubt they are that awful. They are actually really nice and friendly.

Until now I can't find a Saturday job or a summer job in a pharmacy!!! I've looked, called, emailed, visited, and STILL no results. Aargh!!! Annoying!!! It's really important for me to get a job because I need to be on an employer's list to get mactched for Pre-registration. Even if I work at a place, it's not guaranteed that I will be on that list, and even if I AM on it, I won't know. OMG!!! Shit IMU should have helped us get some placement here. At least then we'll have some work experience. The students here all practically have work experience in pharmacies. If they don't have a pharmacy job right now, you can bet that they used to. Tons of them are working part time. Since Strathclyde is not the only uni that has pharmacy, we have to compete with students from other universities as well!!! The competition is so tough!!! We (MQs- IMU students) are at the losing end because we have no work experience so employers are more likely to go for local students. Plus we don't have cars so we have to depend on bus/train/our legs.

Then accommodation. Before coming here, I remembered that IMU gave us a sheet stating that we could pay the tuition fees and accommodation fees for 2 years in 1 go. It suggests that our accommodation in the hostels is guaranteed for the 2 years. But then now, we are only guaranteed a place in the hostels for this year. The next academic year will depend on our luck as it is by ballot. I thought IMU would arrange it for us? Then what about those people who paid for 2 years? Will they be guaranteed a room then? Though I don't actually know anyone who paid for the 2 years. It is all so confusing. This is the problem of being the 'guinea pig' batch. Horrible!!! Our juniors will have it a lot easier than us, as we would tell our mentees and they would come prepared. Unlike us!!! Unfair!!!

Research. I know that this is a field where you can potentially earn a lot of money and also become 'famous' in the healthcare world. But I HATE doing literature review and referencing. OMG!!! My head is going to explode just thinking about all this. Yucks!!! Finding references from journals only is going to make me insane. But the deadline is 1st of April!!! I don't have much time left and I'm still barely half finished. Urrghh!!! Kelvin is coming over tonight to do it with me and Ching Yee. Hope this group work thing will 'inspire' me to finish it once and for all. If not then at least to do 3/4 of it.

The only good thing about staying alone is that you will start to experiment with food more. I did rice pudding recently. Yummy!!! Did you know that the skin formed while baking milk tastes like the "fu chuk" in "fu chuk yi mai"? Damn yummy ok? Hahaha!!!

Then I did bread pudding, but it was not successful because I added too much milk!!! Then other things la, like some mushroom salad. Oh!!! I love the mushrooms here!!! So yummy!!! It's called closed cup mushrooms. Not sure if Malaysia sells them, I doubt so since they are from Scotland. It's white in colour and it's kinda firm. The colour changes to brown once its cooked. Yummy gila!!! Hehehe!!!

Updates!!!

Ok, I know I've been slacking in updating again. Sorry!!! I will TRY to update more often. So far life here has been great, with the exception of missing my baby. It is really fun buying your own food, going wherever you want to go whenever you want to go, shopping at any day of the week (hehe), and cooking whatever you want to eat whenever you want to eat. So far, me and Ching Yee have baked 1 cake together, another with Khong Hern, and the 2 of them baked 1 for my birthday. Hehe!!! We didn't bake it from scratch though. Lazy people like us bought the cake mix. Haha!!! But it was still fun. In fact, me and Ching Yee are going to bake another 1 later. Hehe!!!

She also knows how to make fish balls, so we bought a fresh mackerel this morning from the Fish Plaice, it's a shop that sells fresh fish and frozen chicken and things like that. It's much cheaper than Tesco, Aldi, Sainsbury. Oh!!! Aldi has this special promotion of Harvest Morn's Honey Nut Flakes. £1 for 1kg. It's extremely yummy!!! Honey and peanut coated flakes.Hehe!!! It's cheap compared to Kellog's in Malaysia. Btw, you won't find this in Malaysia because Harvest Morn is produced for Aldi only. We don't have Aldi in Malaysia so.

So far, I've been surviving on baked chicken, fish, vegetables, potato... Anything baked. It's so easy!!! Just marinate the food, wrap it up in aluminium foil (which is provided by the uni), and throw it into the oven. After maybe 10-20mins, it's ready to eat!!! Hehe!!! I love the kitchen here as there is a toaster (which has not been used at all), oven, grill, fridge with freezer, cabinets, cooker, and microwave. So many things right? Hehe!!! Me and Bridget brought a rice cooker each, so we have that. The 3 of them has a pot each, and we bought a baking tray and a big wok. So we have all the cooking appliances we need.

Classes here start typically start around 9am, and finish around 12pm. If we have lab then it's 3 hours in the lab after lunch break. I really REALLY HATE morning labs. The doors close at 9.15am, and me being me, I'm always missing the alarm and things like that. I almost got shut out once. OMG!!! It's such a scary experience. Thankfully, a lecturer who apparently isn't normally nice to late students, let me in, without any scolding really. Just some serious reminders that this is the only time she will let me in late. If we miss a lab or a workshop or a PP3 class, with or without an MC, then we have a 2000words long essay about the lab. Without that letter, we can't sit for the exam. Scary le!!! I really have to wake up early. Haih!!!

The gym here is quite good. It's only £70 for 9months, which is cheaper than in Malaysia. They also have classes like dance fit, hip hop, body attack, aqua fit, and things like that which you can join for free if you're a member. There's also a swimming pool which is free for members. Non-members will have to pay £3 for the gym and £2.50 for any other activity. Another benefit of being a member is that some classes need to be booked, and non members can only book an hour before the class. Hehe. The gym had 2 weeks free for us, so we could see what it's like and decide if we wanted to join. I just joined this Monday. I'm proud to say that I've been rather regular, but this week I've slacked because I had some membership issues at the start of the week, and other complications. I didn't go today either because I was super tired. I really HAVE to go tomorrow.

Ok, I better go cook my dinner now, and then the cake baking will start!!! Yummy!!!

I'm in Scotland!!!

Hi people!!! Yes, I know an update is overdue. Hehe. Sorry!!! Was buzy with everything. I think I shall stop colouring people's names cuz it's incredibly tedious and is 1 of the main reason why I haven't blogged for so long.

So ok, I've reached Glasgow, Scotland. I flew to London on the 11th of Sept. Haha. Yes, the date was a total coincidence. Didn't realise it until I started telling people the date I'm going to fly. I went to London for about 5 days. We stayed in my mum's bank apartmen. It was fully furnished and totally awesome!!! Really!!! The furniture was really nice and the ID was great!!! The beds very really really heavenly soft and fluffy!!! Well, London was fun. We visited a lot of places, and the best thing is, we did all on our own!!! Just walking and taking the underground. My parents and my sister got a 3 day pass while I got the Oyster card since I might be coming down to London in the future for holidays and stuff. So we just took the underground everywhere, and walked where the underground couldn't take us. The only time we took a cab was to and fro the airport. The pictures I'll post onto facebook once I select them. Hehe.

Then we flew to Paris for 4 days and 3 nights. The hostel me and my dad booked online was horrible!!! It's actually quite cute but the service was kind of bad. We booked for 3 nights, but we when we got there, the girl said she can only guarantee us that night, and we'll have to come back to the counter the next morning to see if there's any room left. It's because their website had some problem and they are overbooked. We were like saying that it's their problem, not ours, why should we be the ones that suffer. She said she'll book us a night in a hotel nearby, and we don't have to pay extra.

The hostel is like a double story room. The ground floor has a double decker bed, a tiny toilet, a small shelf, and a curving staircase to the to floor. The upstairs has a double decker bed, a sink with a mirror, and a make shift wardrobe without doors. That's it. But it was ok to stay in. Then when we came back that night, it was already around 10++pm. We asked the guy at the counter about where our stay will be, and he said that we had to go to a nearby hotel called Hotel Citeau. He handed us back the money we paid and asked us to pay the hotel ourselves. But what if the hotel is more expensive? We are definitely not going to pay extra for their mistake. But the guy kept insisting that the price is usually the same. Then the worse thing is, he doesn't even know where it is. He said the girl in the morning booked it, so he doesn't know. Wtf?!?!

We tried arguing with him, and insisting that he bring us there, but in the end, all he did was take a map, bring us down a street nearby and say that it should be down that street. It was soooo frustrating!!! I asked him why can't he bring us there? And you know what he said to us? Can I leave the counter? WTF?!?!? We're part of his job too. Not just the bloody counter. But he left, with the map too, if I had not asked him if I could have that.

So, we had to ask our way to a hotel that nobody seems to know, besides the street its on, in a quite deserted time and area, ina place where hardly anyone speaks English. But, I finally found the place, thanks to a lady I asked, walking down the street. Hehe!!! She didn't know it, but she just said that if there's anything on Citeau street, it would be there, she thinks. Thanks!!!

The place was just as crappy, or maybe worse. We had to stay seperately as their rooms only cater for 2 person. The room had a queen sized bed, a small wardrobe, a table and a chair, a sink and a mirror, and some plug points. The end. The toilet was outside, and to use the shower, you have to pay 3€. Crazy!!! No breakfast somemore!!! It was cheaper by 2€ only. Haih!!!

The guy at the counter also said that if my dad came back the next morning before 9am, he can get the room for that night. So the next morning, my dad went there to get the room for the last night. But the girl at the counter, a chinese girl, said that they were overbooked and couldn't give him a room. My dad told her about what the guy at the counter last night saud, but she said she couldn't do anything. My dad was of course frustrated and asked her to call the manager. Her reply was super weird. The manager does not wake up so early. PLS!!! This is part of his job. Where got such thing as cannot call the manager in the morning at a respectable time, because he is sleeping??!!?! Then my dad asked her to call the 1st girl at the counter but she said she couldn't get her. Then my dad got really angry and banged the table. So she quickly called the manager. In the end, the manager agreed to let us have a room, and also breakfast for that morning, since the next morning we won't be having breakfast as our flight to London was at 7am, so we'll leave at 5am.

The places we saw at Paris were relatively little compared to London. We only went to the Opera, the Moulin Rouge, the Arc, the Bastille, the Lourve, and a few more. Food in Paris is slightly more expensive than in London. I don't know. That's just what I think.

Then so we flew to London to take another flight to Glasgow, waited for about 2 hours, then my friends arrived!!! Hehe!!! I arrived around 12pm on the 19th of Sept, while they came out of the gate at around 2pm. So we all went to the uni in the uni bus. My room is great, honestly. I like it!!! Except for the small and weirdly placed wardrobe, and the lack of place to hang things. The arrangement of our hostels are like this:

1 toilet, 1 kitchen : 4 ppl
1 living room: 8 ppl

But, in the end, since we were lucky, we got the corner lot, so the living room is only shared amongst us 4!!! Haha!!! Plus, somehow the shower's bigger too. Oh!!! There's another weird thing. There's actually 2 toilets. 1 toilet has a toilet bowl and a sink and a mirror. The other has a shower, a sink, and a mirror. So let's say you have some big business, you can't wash in the toilet bcuz there's no shower or any hose. You have to somehow get to the shower to wash. Weird huh? But we've survived for a few days.

Then we went shopping the next day!!! We walked all the way to a place called Chong Ying, to buy Chinese stuff like rice and oyster sauce. Then took a cab back (20kg of rice cannot carry and walk back 20mins ok?). Then we went to Tesco and LIDL. OMG. That took the entire day, and we bought so much stuff that we needed some time to load everything into the cab. After reaching the hostel, we had to unload everything onto the road. Haha. The cab couldn't drop us directly outside our block, so we had to walk like maybe 300m. There was so much stuff that 1 of us had to take care of it, while us 2 had to carry as much as much as we can back, and come back again for another round. It took us 3 rounds to take everything. OMG.

On Tues, we went to Arglye Street for shopping!!! OMG!!! I LOVE Primark!!! The things there are cheap!!! And really, UK is leopard heaven!!! Everywhere there's leopard print this, leopard print that. So nice!!! Furry stuff too!!! We even saw a pillow with faux fur by Tesco, and it was super soft!!! However, it was 13 pounds, so hehe, not in my budget. Anyw, the prices at Primark are pretty good, even when comparing to Malaysia. Well, of course not All of it, but quite a lot. I bought a leopard print umbrella (3 pounds), a purple top (1 pound), a super nice black dress (3 pounds), a black spaghetti strap top (1 pound), a leopard jute shopping bag (0.5 pounds), a mango body scrub (0.5 pounds), thick cotton tights (2 pounds), and a black beaded multi layer bracelet (1 pound). Cheap ok the stuff??!!? And the HEELS!!! OMG!!! So damn nice. But pricey... Haih. So I didn't buy any. If I do work part time, I'm definitely gonna save up for a super gorgeous sexy pair. *dreaming...*

We've started cooking our meals now. It's fun!!! We had salmon 1 night. OMG!!! So delicious!!! SO simple only some more. Anyw, all the pics will be up in facebook. Soon. Hehe.

My classes start tomorrow so I'll be seeing the lecturers and the lecture theatres. Hope they're nice!!! =)
